Today the students were visited by NC State professor, Dr. DeLeon Gray. He talked to the 7th and 8th grade students about his career in academics and how to successfully navigate your way through middle school, high school, and college. The students truly enjoyed his visit!

I will let the pictures speak for themselves. Here are my 7th graders mentoring my 6th graders and helping them with their projects.
On December 3, our students visited the Carolina Theater for the Hispanic Ballet.
Afterward, we enjoyed lunch at Golden Corral. Thank you, Senator Howard N. Lee! Today the students and I took a field trip to the Frontier, a local building that houses numerous STEM related businesses. We played trivia, took a tour, ate pizza, and took a virtual field trip. Big shout out to the dads of Kayla White, Xavier Smith, and Raquel Gulledge for coming out and chaperoning!!
STEM Academy students are now working on a Prezi about tsunamis. We watched "The Wave That Shook the World" and have started researching physical characteristics, tsunami awareness and safety, worldwide occurrences, and the impact on life. They will work in small groups to create a prezi to present to the class. I can't wait to see the end products!
Today my students were fortunate enough to meet Gus and Marie Godwin. Mr. Godwin is a local historian and Mrs. Godwin used to teach in the same Little Red School House where I now teach. We found out that the house was built in 1903 and cost $275.00 to build!!
Last week, our STEM class started creating apps using the MIT App Builder. Our first app is a drawing app. It's wonderful to watch our future programmers and engineers at work! :-)
Later, students will compete to create their own original apps. I can't wait to see where they go!! |
